I really enjoyed my experience while working with Great Lakes. I learned a lot, it is nice to use what I learned in the classroom on the job. I thought the Superintendents did a good job in helping me learn what was going on with the job.

My co-op experience with The Great Lakes Construction Company has been a great one.  It has taught me that being out in the field on the jobsite can teach you just as much as being in the classroom.  It is a really great way to learn, and I find myself learning something new everyday.  Being new to construction, the most important aspect of the job for me thus far has been terminology.  It is a lot easier to understand the procedures being followed when you know exactly what everything is.  Some of my job responsibilities include field measurements and calculations, daily reports, cost codes, and being an assistant to the Project Engineer.  All of the Great Lakes employees have been extremely kind and have gone out of their way to help me in my understanding of the job and its corresponding work.  For any student who is pursuing a career in civil engineering, especially heavy roadway construction, The Great Lakes Construction Co. is a great choice for a co-op.

Working with Great Lakes Construction the past three summers was an extremely excellent opportunity to further my education and enthusiasm for the construction industry. The experience and education provided by working with Great Lakes has proven to be an invaluable part of my education as my construction knowledge has become increasingly well rounded and balanced between the realms of field and class/office work. The Great Lakes Construction Company provides an environment for learning that exceeds normal expectations of the typical college internship and places ample responsibility with the co-op that is neither underwhelming nor overwhelming. I would strongly recommend any student looking for a productive internship in the field of construction to seriously consider Great Lakes as a potential employer.
