Site Development

Site development services include: earthwork, grading, surcharging, soil treatment, sub-base and base installation, levee and berm work, drainage, utility work, and site concrete paving.
Excavation
Our long history of working for contractors, combined with the field construction experience of our staff, gives us the knowledge and depth necessary to respond quickly to requests, often under adverse conditions. Our staff has expertise in rock and soil mechanics as well as extensive experience with the design of structures for difficult ground conditions.
Great Lakes has many years of experience in civil excavation on public works and commercial developments. All aspects of site preparation are covered; services, sidewalks, curbing, sewers and paved roads to readiness for construction.
Design/Build
The Great Lakes design/build process blends the discipline of a strong design partner with the strong civil construction history of Great Lakes Construction to create a team that will meet and exceed project requirements.
We provide a single source of responsibility for both design and construction which dramatically impacts speed, cost and quality on the client's behalf. Our Design/Build projects often substantially reduce hard costs compared to independent design-and-bid methods. Depending on the type of project, we can team with one, or several design firms to create the right team for the project.

Great Lakes has successfully completed numerous projects for private developers, as well as local municipalities and state agencies. Our sanitary, storm, waterline and communication installation crews specialize in all types of underground utility construction ranging from "wide open" subdivisions, "cross country" pipelines, to inner city utility construction.
Piling/Sheeting & Bracing
Great Lakes can handle all your earth retention needs. Cost-effective earth retention systems are designed with safety in mind. Our goal is to provide the least obtrusive earth retention system while affording the maximum protection to workers on the site and minimizing movement of the adjacent earth.
Earth retention systems we design and install include: Sheet Piling, H-Pile, Pipe Pile, Soldier Beams and Lagging and External bracing - soil anchors or tie backs, Internal bracing - struts, diagonals, and rakers.
Landfill Construction/Closure
Great Lakes has the expertise, familiarity, and understanding to work capably in this field where stringent state and federal regulations prevail. We have constructed demolition, municipal waste, and industrial landfill cells having a variety of designs.
Wetlands Construction
Great Lakes employs sophisticated engineering, management skills and specialized equipment, to bid and deliver on specialized and complex wetlands construction projects.
