Great Lakes believes safety takes the highest priority and as a result, we take a very proactive approach in providing a safe work environment.
Naturally Great Lakes is concerned with complying with the laws and standards, but the real bottom line is preventing accidents and injuries. All of us must think of ways to do all jobs safer and still get the work accomplished. We must think of our work in terms of how the job can be done without injury to ourselves or others.
We do not believe that our safety goals can be obtained through company policies alone. A safe work environment can be achieved through the conscientious efforts of all of us. Supported with proper policies and with all of us constantly thinking safety, our safety culture becomes dynamic and continues to improve our safe work environment.
We are especially conscious of safety as we are self-insured for workers compensation in the State of Ohio. Great Lakes employs a full-time Safety Compliance Officer who reports to the Sr. Vice President. This ensures that all projects are being run in a safe manner. Appropriate educational information is forwarded to each project for weekly safety talks. These talks have become part of our policy. A safety bonus program is in effect which gives added incentive to superintendents and employees.
