PROJECT 328-97
Great Lakes was awarded this non-traditional synthetic gypsum plant project by FirstEnergy. We utilized their staff of engineers to design the process while GLC led a team of contractors and outside engineering firms to organize, design, schedule, and construct this new technological facility.

PROJECT 480-03
Great Lakes partnered with C&S Engineers for the City of Akron. This project was a fast track job to refurbish the High Street Viaduct bridge, roadway and two other bridges in the Akron downtown area. The entire project was designed and constructed in less than one year.

First EnergyPROJECT 551-06
Great Lakes Construction was awarded the first of many projects at FirstEnergy’s Sammis Plant in Stratton, Ohio.  The project involved moving the plants personnel parking area to a new location on the other side of a set of railroad tracks and then connecting the new lot to the plant with a pedestrian bridge.  The current parking area will then be the site for a 900’ high stack to meet the Clean Air Federal Requirements.  The new work included drainage, grading, asphalt, security and the new bridge. It is a Design/Build effort for Bechtel Engineering.

I-71PROJECT 3000-06
Great Lakes Construction teamed up with Chagrin Valley Engineering to complete the design-build noisewall project on I-71. The project had 229,000 sf of brick patterned concrete walls. The noise barriers were installed northbound and southbound between West 150th Street and Bellaire Avenue.

Bechtel PowerPROJECT 572-07
Great Lakes Construction continued their participation in an air quality control project at the Sammis Electric Generation Plant in Stratton, Ohio. Bechtel Corporation recommended to FirstEnergy to select Great Lakes Construction to build a barge unloading dock on the Ohio River. This project consisted of earthwork, dredging, and construction of a sheet pile dock wall with soil anchor tiebacks. A stone ramp allows heavy components to travel from the river across SR-7 and enter the plant.

Bechtel PowerPROJECT 596-08
Great Lakes Construction was awarded a design-build project from Charter Steel to demolish and install a new Slag Barrier Wall. The work was done during a plant outage of three days. Great Lakes and C&S Engineers teamed together to adapt our noisewall construction expertise into providing a steel structure that protects the surrounding area from molten slag.

Bechtel PowerPROJECT 604-08
Great Lakes performed many of Charter Steel’s paving projects and based on the success of those projects, Great Lakes installed two areas of concrete pavement while grading for asphalt for a third area of their plant. To make it challenging, Charter Steel wanted the work completed during a four day outage over a holiday weekend.

Bechtel PowerPROJECT 3001-08
Great Lakes Construction teamed up again with Chagrin Valley Engineering to construct five sound absorptive noise barriers along I-71 Northbound in Columbus, Ohio. The walls totaled over 170,000 sf along a five mile stretch of highway.

PROJECT 3003-08
This design-build project entailed rehabilitating eight bridges on I-77 in Summit County. Six of the eight bridges received new bridge decks and two were complete superstructure replacements. The two year project was designed by the GPD Group of Akron and built by Great Lakes and CBS workforces.
