A cast of operators transformed a site that consisted of over 20 feet of fill material into suitable sub grade ready for building foundations.

Shippingport, PA

Structural steel and fiberglass process tanks were erected over the winter months as the synthetic gypsum plant began to take shape.

Waterline installation crews completed the extensive fire safety portion of the project as work at this facility neared completion.

NORFOLK SOUTHERN

Cloggsville Bypass
Cleveland, Ohio

Flume pipes control river flow while crews formed the footer of a bridge extension.  This structure was widened to allow an additional railroad track to be installed over the river. The project provides over seven miles of upgraded track to meet the diversified rail shipping demands.

This challenging project called upon Great Lakes staff of OSHA 40-hour hazardous material trained employees. At the completion of the project the Great Lakes team had safely excavated and disposed of over 60,000 C.Y. of contaminated material.

Carnegie Management called upon Great Lakes for site work activities for the expansion of Middleburg Towne Square. Our company did the original site work in 1995 during the beginning phase of construction. Edifice Company of Charlotte, North Carolina retained Great Lakes to assist them in completion of the new cinema site package.

The spring shipping season neared as piling crews skillfully stabilized an existing sheet pile wall by reattaching the wall to the battered tiebacks. Work was ahead of schedule and the wall was backfilled prior to the first ship’s mooring date.

First Energy called upon Great Lakes to assist in a major upgrade in the dam’s overflow to the Ohio River. A portion of the pipeline traverses through an existing railroad bridge.

The transformation of this 250 acre rural site into an industrial community began by Great Lakes earthwork crews preparing an existing pond to receive 60,000 C.Y. of fill material.

Great Lakes carpenter crews worked long hours throughout the winter months to complete the concrete foundations in time to accept delivery of the owner’s equipment.

Norfolk Southern Intermodal Facility
Maple Heights, Ohio

An aggressive early summer completion of the new Cleveland area Intermodal Facility required simultaneous earthwork, underground utility installation and sheet pile retention walls.

The unusual cold and snowy winter challenged Great Lakes earthwork and utility crews to keep the owner’s early summer completion date a reality. Interim completion dates were met and the project remained on schedule.

ST. MARY’S CEMENT

Cleveland Terminal Silo Installation
Cleveland, Ohio

With a short break in the cement demand during winter months, St. Mary's called upon Great Lakes to install H-piling deep foundations and a structural concrete cap in preparation to receive a new silo before the Spring cement demand began.  Existing utilities needed to be supported during the pile driving activities.

Nautica Entertainment Complex

Two Great Lakes piling crews were called upon to install the large quantity of H-piling which acts as the deep foundations for the covered stage complex. Concrete footers and pedestals followed to meet a June, 2002 completion date.

Mainline Retaining Wall
Bedford, Ohio

A new shoring system needed to be installed adjacent to active mainline tracks.  Norfolk Southern knew they could count on Great Lakes to perform this work safely and within their strict schedule constraints. H-piles were driven and wood lagging was installed to stabilize the eroding slope.
